At a glance, CPMs resemble mechanized casts or slings. These sophisticated CPM devices are fitted onto the affected limb or the limb itself fits into the CPM device for therapy. What Do They Do?
The CPM device consistently and constantly moves the joint through a controlled, prescribed range of motion. The exact range of motion is dependent upon the joint and the physicians written prescription. In most cases, the goal of using a continuous passive motion device is to slowly over time increase the range of motion of the affected joint.
When are They Used?
The CPM device is used immediately post operatively for a time period of up to 6 weeks, depending on the physician prescription. By placing the CPM device on immediately after surgery, the gentle, continuous movement can control post operative pain, decrease inflammation, and slowly increase the traumatized joint range of motion.
What are the Options?
OrthoAgility ® CPM devices are available for a wide variety of joint rehabilitation, primarily synovial joints (hip, knee, ankle, shoulder, elbow, and wrist), immediately following surgery or most traumas to the joint.
- Specific tenosynovitis, until infection is controlled
